Hey, sorry we're late.

We all expected a new type but I think all of us were caught off guard by Gardevoir getting a new type. I had to write this one to be a little ambiguous because the Steel weakness of fairy types isn't officially confirmed. Also, first time in ages that Cooking Mama has spoken.

Between Giga's burn-out and my vacation next week we're gonna be taking a break but don't worry, the comic will still be uploaded. You can help us through this tough time by submitting a guest comic or by subscribing, rating and commenting. You can also spread the word by copying and pasting individual strips around the webs. I better not find the whole archive uploaded to funnyjunk or 9gag with the link at the bottom cropped off though.

And if you want more Level 30 in your life, here's designs for Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

In this strip, we get a rare glance of Gardevoir and Cooking Mama's vicious rivalry. Red and Blue have nothing on them!

...Or perhaps I'm just reading too much into my own artwork? ;P

Anyways, I've had the chance to add Project X Zone to my game library, and I must say, it's pretty dang awesome. If you've ever loved a Capcom, Namco, or Sega character and want to support epic crossovers and high-profile localization efforts, I must insist that you purchase this game. You get a free poster and music CD with it, so why not?

And I just recently got the Deadpool game, so I guess it's review time all around then.
Uh, I do have to say, the combat system is pretty standard if not generic, it goes from a hack 'n slash to a third person shooter on the fly, there are upgrades but not a lot of them actually change the way combat is done, they're really only level up type deals that let you keep up with the advancing enemies. It's fun, but it can also can get repetitive if you let it.

The stages are boring and uninteresting, they had access to the entirety of the Marvel universe but the most you ever see out of it background wise are dead sentinels that you can interact with a bit. The only real exceptions are some really neat stages towards the end of the game where [SPOILERS] you help out Death capture some spirits while exploring your own psyche.

There's only about, 10 hours of campaign mode, three difficulty settings (and the hard one gets really hard, like, larger enemies take almost all your health in one hit even when it's upgraded completely) and some bonus stuff which is just kill a certain amount of enemies in a certain amount of time.

The writing is fucking fantastic, it's absolutely hilarious and it's worth every penny just for that. I was laughing out loud most of the time and that's not something I'm prone to do actually. Also there's a surprisingly compelling and downright adorable romantic subplot which I wasn't expecting. BUT, it's probably a better rental than a full buy because, like I said, you could beat the whole thing in a day or two if you devote yourself and the bonus content is pretty whatever.

I'll probably comment on the actual comic when the coloring get's done.

Colors are up.
Stupid dragon confused for an hour before I said **** it and just guessed where colors went.
We got ourselves a Nowi cameo. (BTW you should totes read awkward zombie if you don't already).
I kind of wanted to make the fourth panel as epic as possible so that the relatively simple fifth one was funnier by juxtaposition.

Furthermore I have the theory that Gardevoir just kind of moves furniture around to suit whatever need she has and that's not an excuse for inconsistency, it's just a theory. Why else would she have a couch facing the wall and a TV at the side of her bed, if not to switch them out whenever she felt like watching something.
GigaNerd17 edit delete
Wait, that was Gardevoir's kitchen?! I just assumed the hospital had one... which means Panel 6 makes no bloody sense. Yowza.

Let's just say Gardevoir reenacted the terror in the waiting room, 'kay? >_>
TheMightyBox edit delete
I was wondering about that actually.

Official PR statement, Mama kicked Gardevoir in the shin for being a wuss?

Thought the fourth panel was a little bit strange to look at without colour. I can barely tell what is going on. Lovely line art and writing as per usual, but it's rather disappointing that every week we're getting incomplete versions without colour. I think I'd rather wait a little longer for the better version each week, but that's just me.

I agree that it's nice to have the pretty version right off the bat, but it's already a struggle to crank these out every week. If we waited to upload when both I and Box finished up, there'd be no way in heck we could keep deadlines, and the comic would've died of fairly quickly. This method reduces a lot of stress for us in exchange for a temporary chip off of viewer satisfaction.

I wonder if those designs work cross region. I have a Japanese 3DS myself. If I ever get とびだせどうぶつの森 I will definitely try to use those.

I enjoyed the comic as usual but I will say color will definitely help whenever you guys get the chance :D

Is it bad that I actually like the comic without color better? :x

Generally a viewer preference thing. Some prefer black and white comics because it really brings out the lineart, and gorgeous lineart can actually look better without coloring. (Yes, Giga, this is a compliment. :P)

However, others think the color really helps to sell it--especially colors done well. For instance, as Anon pointed out, colors would help to give panel four some extra clarity.

Aww, thanks Ranger! Means a lot coming from a comic connoisseur like yourself~!
(You too, DarkAura!)

If you don't mind my two cents, Level 30 just isn't the same without coloring. Box's talents are a major component in allowing our readers to identify our characters. For instance, Cooking Mama and Gardevoir would be almost unrecognizable without their iconic colors due to the redesigns we gave them, while certain cameos (like Rathalos in Panel 2) would be hard to identify in just black-and-white.

Especially true when they've palette swapped that wyvren so many times I had to be careful when writing the alt text.

Ha, I guess you guys are right. I mean, don't get me wrong, the colored version is wonderful, but if I had a choice, I'd prefer the black and white version no pokemon pun intended. As ranger said, it's just a matter of general preference.

Personally, I didn't know it was cooking mama in that last panel until it was colored (I feel silly now, of course, who else is called "mama"?)

Hey, I'd just like to say that I've been following your webcomic for a while now, and that I really do like what I see. I am, however, surprised that Gardevoir isn't more surprised at secretly being a fairy princess all these years >.>

Also, I'd kind of like to see one of the Robot Masters show up at some point - they've certainly got plenty of baggage to unload! Although that might not be wise, considering who runs the Clinic.
TheMightyBox edit delete reply
I think we all have a fairy princess part of us.
Gardevoir just had her's confirmed
I personally have my own theories but they're not canon so I won't share them.

We had Elec Man in the Schizo arc, and I recall there being plans for a certain other robot master to have it's own arc, but I don't know if we're still going to use it.

Well, I'm just going to throw in here WHY fairies would be weak to steel - the pokémon fairy seems to be more elden fae than the modern Disney fairy. Ancient tradition held that faeries were repulsed by iron - and by extension, steel, which is just an iron-carbon alloy.
If any pokémon fits the bill, it's Mew. Small, mischievous, rarely seen, and practically deific.
Bit of sourcing here...
Now that that's over with - I propose that panels 3, 4, and 5 are flashback panels, and Gardevior passes out in panel six when remembering the trauma of the event.
GigaNerd17 edit delete reply
I've had similar thoughts. The way I see Pokémon's Fairy-type being interpreted is a mix between pagan fey and Christian angels. Poison weakness is explained by the fey traditionally being poisoned by iron; everything else is explained with angels. Angels are greater than man (SE vs. Fighting), cast out the darkness (SE vs. Dark), and are ultimately immune to the serpent tempter's efforts (Immunity vs. Dragons). However, divine influence has trouble reaching those who will not accept it (NVE vs. Psychic) and because they deliver wrath through brimstone and chariots of fire, flamelike beings aren't as bothered (NVE vs. Fire).

The only thing that would make this better would be NVE vs. Grass, representing the fey's repulsion by certain herbs and toadstools. Grass needs some boosts. ;~;

I've been seeing this comic for a long time now and just realized that Nowi is in the picture. <3
DiZ Boshi (Guest) edit delete reply
Must be because they are talking od Dragons, and Nowi is a dragon. A thousands year old dragon that looks around 12 and can get married. Yeah...
Guest (Guest) edit delete reply
After the reveal of the type charts for X and Y, Fairy is weak to Steel, so that's a coincidence.
Guest (Guest) edit delete reply
So, is that dragon a Rathalos?
Invisible Man (Guest) edit delete reply
Nice touch with Nowi in the waiting room.
